Preventative Care in Bradenton FL

Preventative Care | Laser DentistryAt Laser Dentistry, we believe that prevention is the key to optimum oral health, and helping you achieve and maintain optimum oral health for a lifetime is our number one goal. This is why we put such a strong emphasis on preventative care and our hygiene team takes the time to educate you about your oral health and offer tips and techniques for proper brushing and flossing at home.

Preventative Care for Adults

We recommend that you have a professional cleaning and check-up regularly to remove plaque build-up and screen for restorative needs. We screen for periodontal disease, tooth decay, and oral cancer at every adult check-up because diagnosing these conditions in their early stages ensures that you have the best chance of successfully treating these issues. For this reason, you’ll always have an examination with Dr. Clarke at your regular appointments.

Periodontal disease, or gum disease, is an infection of the tissues and bone that support your teeth, and it occurs when bacteria and plaque build up around your gum tissue, causing it to swell, bleed, and eventually separate from your teeth. Gingivitis, which is the early stage of gum disease, is treatable with a thorough cleaning and improved home care.

Periodontitis is the more advanced stage of gum disease, which requires a deep cleaning, or scaling and root planning, to remove plaque and tartar build-up below the gum line. Our dental laser can also be used in conjunction with scaling and root planning to remove infected tissue and accelerate the healing process. If periodontal disease is left untreated, it will eventually lead to tooth and bone loss. Unfortunately periodontal disease can't ever be cured, but it can be effectively managed through proper home care and more frequent cleanings.

X-rays are typically recommended once per year, and at Laser Dentistry, we use digital radiography. Digital x-rays offer a clearer and more comprehensive look at your teeth, while exposing you to 80% less radiation than traditional x-rays. Reviewing your x-rays annually allows Dr. Clarke a more comprehensive look at your teeth and the opportunity to recommend any necessary restorative treatment in its earliest stages when treatment is less extensive and invasive for you.

Children’s Dentistry

Bradenton Preventative Care | Laser DentistryWe welcome patients of all ages to Laser Dentistry, and Dr. Clarke recommends seeing our youngest patients around the age of twelve months old. This gives us a chance to introduce your child to the dental chair, examine and count their teeth, and help put them at ease so they will look forward to their future dental appointments.

As your child gets older, you can take advantage of our advanced services for children such as fluoride treatments to help strengthen their teeth and sealants to help protect their teeth from decay and cavities.

We consider every patient a member of our family at Laser Dentistry, and we can’t wait to welcome your family into ours!
